FRIDAY STYLE TIP: MAKE SURE THE SHOULDERS FIT

Today's style tip is a quick one, but important.  I am a huge proponent of finding a good tailor and going often.  Clothes rarely fit properly right off the rack.  You generally want to fit the largest part of you, and alter down from there.

Mango Bomber Jacket - $49.99

When it comes to finding a great jacket, coat, or blazer (my favorite wardrobe must-have), you need to make sure that it fits properly in the shoulders.  A tailor can fix most everything else about a jacket, but the shoulders just are what they are.  You want the seams to sit right at the top of your shoulders.  If it's too wide, too snug, or hanging off of your shoulders in some other uncomfortable way, skip it.  Chances are that a tailor won't be able to help much.

Rag &  Bone Blazer - $250

Do you have any great alterations advice?  If you live in Richmond, can you recommend a good tailor?

I strive to make wardrobe choices clear and easy for women who are short on time, overwhelmed by their closets, or transitioning from one period of life to another.  Let's connect!
