5 WAYS TO TAKE SEQUINS FROM HOLIDAY TO EVERYDAY

If you haven't noticed, sequins are everywhere.  And if you're anything like me, you bought at least one too many sequined items for all of those holiday parties you were(n't) invited to.  Now you either have a closet full of sequins that you're on the verge of packing up until next December, or you have a new-found love of all things sequined, but no idea how to incorporate them into your everyday looks.  Joanna to the rescue!

I don't really find Richmond to be a "daytime sequin" friendly place, but I'm on a mission to change that.  I think it's pretty easy to turn sequins into a perfectly appropriate daytime look, as long as you keep the rest of your ensemble, hair, and makeup casual and simple.

1.  Find a sequined item in a whimsical print.  The whimsy of stripes or polka dots, combined with relaxed jeans, reads effortless and confident.

2.  Reverse it.  No, I don't mean wear it inside out!  I mean that the above tip works in reverse.  Wear otherwise dressier sequins with a non-sequined, casual, whimsical print.

3.  Wear a button-down.  If you have a holiday-leftover sequined top just hanging out in your closet, and you're not comfortable making such a bold statement, throw a chambray or flannel top over it.  Not only does this add a very casual element, but it covers up some of the sparkle.

4.  Go cozy.  It's a rainy, gloomy day in Richmond -- a perfect time to throw on a sweatshirt.  Or better yet, a sequined sweatshirt!  Of course, you can wear it with jeans of any sort, but if you need to be slightly dressier, it will look fantastic with some ankle length trousers and a cute clutch.  You might even be able to pull off this look at work (depending on where you work).

5.  Start small.  For those of you who need a slower approach into this whole "daytime sequins" look, why not start off small, with a sequin clutch or a t-shirt with a small sequin element, like a pocket?  Baby steps!

As for me, I have lots of sequins, and I'm not afraid to wear them!  I keep eyeing this skirt, but it's pretty bold.  Should I??

If you're still not convinced, I can help.  I strive to make wardrobe choices clear and easy for women who are short on time, overwhelmed by their closets, or transitioning from one period of life to another.  Let's connect!
