OVERCOMING PHOTO-PHOBIA: MY NEW HEADSHOTS

I really, really hate having my picture taken.  It's one thing to take a selfie, for which I can take 7,000 pictures (and I do) and pick the one acceptable enough to post on Instagram, and no one is the wiser.  It's quite another when I pay someone to take just a few pictures to represent my business, and more importantly, to represent me.  Enter Emily of The Real Life Beauty and Meghan McSweeney Photography!

It was waaay past time for me to update my headshot and other photos on my website.  I know this because I've had clients do a double-take when I arrive at their homes, saying "you don't look anything like your picture!"  Hmmm.  So, when Emily mentioned that she had teamed up with Meghan to offer a headshot mini-session package, including hair, makeup, and 3 professional images, I jumped on board.  Because of my photo-phobia, I need to do this kind of thing with someone I trust and know will make me happy and comfortable in an uncomfortable situation, so I knew Emily was my girl!  She assured me that I'd feel the same way about Meghan, and she wasn't foolin'.

(Do we need to address the belt-less elephant in the room?)

When I showed up at the Real Life Beauty Shop, I headed in to be dolled up.  I kept my mouth shut and left everything to the professional!  I loved that my makeup and hair were incredibly special, but not so "done" that I didn't feel like myself!  When it was my time to get in front of the camera, and I was shaking in my stilettos, Meghan totally put me at ease.  She gave lots of direction, cracked a few jokes, and didn't laugh too loud when my fake smiles looked completely ridiculous!  (Ridiculous, I tell you!)

I imagine most folks who take advantage of the headshot mini-session will not ask for wardrobe change options, but you know I had a trunk FULL of clothes, and I appreciated their letting me change a couple of times.  Emily and Meghan understood that a personal stylist's photo shoot would be different than a professor's.  That's refreshing!

The end result was pages of amazing pictures and some really tough decisions.  Though I've given you a larger sampling of their work on this post, I had to narrow it down to three for my permanent collection.  I'll be updating my website with them soon, so check back in to see which ones I picked.

If you're in need of an updated shot for your website, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc., Emily and Meghan are offering another Professional Headshot Mini-Session day on September 19th.  Head here to book your appointment.  And let me know if you need help choosing the perfect outfit(s).  I'd love to style you for your pictures!

As a personal stylist in Richmond, VA, I strive to make wardrobe choices clear and easy for women who are short on time, overwhelmed by their closets, or transitioning from one period of life to another.  Let's connect!
